Foreword
Volume 9, Number 1, February 2007 Supplement 1

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As President of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and on behalf of the members of ARVO, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Singapore for the inaugural Asia-ARVO Meeting on Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

This Meeting reflects ARVOs long-range commitment to supporting and promoting eye and vision research in all parts of the world. I want to thank the Singapore Eye Research Institute for hosting this exciting meeting, as well as the previous two meetings known as SERI-ARVO.

ARVO is the worlds largest organization for ophthalmic and vision research, with more than 11,700 members worldwide, representing over 70 countries. This meeting will bring leaders in eye and vision research from Asia and around the world together in Singapore for four days of learning.

I am pleased that 33 countries will be represented at the Asia-ARVO Meeting. Participants from 16 countries in Asia will have a unique opportunity to establish connections with other researchers in the region and internationally. The diagnosis, prevention and treatment of eye diseases, with particular relevance to the Asia-Pacific region, will be at the forefront of discussion during the four days of the meeting.

I am honored to announce that the 2009 Asia-ARVO Meeting will be held in Hyderabad, India, in early 2009. More than 30 percent of participants at this years Meeting come from India, and it is with anticipation that we look forward to the next Asia-ARVO Meeting hosted by this active eye research community.

Frederick L. Ferris, III, MD
President
Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology
