It is a great honour for the Asian Journal of Ophthalmology to work together with the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology to publish this special millennium issue. The Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology has now been established in the region for 12 years. This special issue brings together the enthusiasm of Asian Journal of Ophthalmology with the experience and longevity of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology to produce a truly innovative joint issue. Included in this issue are articles from some of the most experienced and respected ophthalmologists in Asia, in the form of original research, treatment issues, and commentary, addressing such topics as surgical and medical treatment for glaucoma, lens fixation in children, and management of leaking blebs. The latest efforts of the World Health Organization to combat blindness in Asia are documented on page 28, along with an interview with the Director of Disability/Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation at the World Health Organization in Geneva. The Conference Report tackles the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, while our new section, Ophthalmology in View, focuses on iridocorneal endothelial syndrome. Professor Arthur SM Lim, Editor-in-Chief of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology, in his editorial on page 3, exhorts us to confront the challenge of glaucoma in the 21st century — a sentiment that should not be ignored. The editors of the Asian Journal of Ophthalmology and Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology wish you a happy, challenging and successful new millennium.
